We made our way to the Mercedes-Benz Superdome and wandered around before walking Ashton back to her hotel for her group dinner with her running club buddies.
Shannon's mom texted us to let us know that her Grandma had enjoyed beignets at that exact open air cafe when she was in NOLA. She told us that she also ate them while on a visit. Since Shannon had them earlier that morning, we had to take Ashton back so we could make a 4th generation experience of enjoying beignets in the exact same location. Maybe Ashton will take her kids one day.
NOLA's public transportation system is very inexpensive. You can ride the streetcars and buses all day long for $3 per person. Since we were trying to stay off our feet with the big race coming up, we took advantage of the opportunity to ride the streetcar. We can also mark another form of transportation off our list of experiences!
Crepes, French Toast, and an egg sandwich, are all part of the carb-loading experience as we gear up for the next day's half marathon. Lunch was really good at this little cafe across from the convention center.
Ashton met us at the Convention Center Race Expo where she arrived with her University of Alabama Running Club members.
We headed back to the Convention Center on Saturday morning and noticed this MLK Jr. display that we missed the night before.
Across the street from Cafe Du Monde is Jackson Square, the site of the Louisiana Purchase. The St. Louis Cathedral can also be found here where Pope John Paul II worshipped in 1987. The square is surrounded by buildings with balconies and trees hanging with the iconic purple, gold, and green beads.
