This building was the headquarters of the largest chemical company in Germany. During the war, they made extermination gas for the concentration camps. General Eisenhower would not allow it to be bombed because he wanted to make in his headquarters after the war. The family tie is Shannon's grandfather had an office here when he worked in intelligence after the war. He probably stood where Shannon and Ashton did above the clock. The only reference to the military headquarters is the glass door that says “Eisenhower Rotunda”. The statue of the naked woman was removed by Mamie Eisenhower because she didn’t want our soldiers to see it. They later found it in the basement. The building has now been repurposed for the University of Frankfurt.

The original was bombed in World War II and all that was left was a giant crater. The Germans left it as a reminder for nearly four decades before rebuilding.

If you want pepperoni in Germany order salami. If you order pepperoni you are getting pepperoncini. It may say pepperoni on the menu but some words just don’t translate.
Ashton and I made it to the top! You can see from the pictures how Frankfurt has rebuilt since World War II.
